BSNL Employees Union on Wednesday demanded that tariffs announced by the telecom corporation effective from May 1, be reduced in the interest of the common subscriber and BSNL itself.
"While the stated policy of the government is to increase the teledensity and universal service, the present revision will compel many to
disconnect their phones. New applications will also be reduced," BSNL Employees Union said in a statement in New Delhi.
The union has demanded that the Government immediately reimburse Rs 9,000 crore (Rs 90 billion) to BSNL, on account of losses incurred by the corporation in the last three years for giving village connections.
