No-frills airline Air Deccan is offering five lakh air tickets free, but with taxes and surcharges, in an effort to stimulate air travel during lean season.

These 'zero rupees plus taxes and surcharges tickets' would be available for sale across all sectors of the airline for travel between July 1 and October 27, an Air Deccan spokesperson said.

The bookings for these tickets, as well as for regular bookings for all flights during this period, would open at 0800 hours on Saturday.

The airline also announced a new cancellation policy under which "all new tickets booked on or after April 14 will not be refundable. The tickets can however be rescheduled to another date, flight or sector," the spokesperson said.

The new terms and conditions of the policy would be displayed on the Air Deccan website.

On the free tickets, its chief revenue officer S Sridharan said the idea was to encourage and stimulate air travel even during lean seasons. "An average load factor of 80 per cent over the last six months is a witness to the fact that we have been able to maintain a healthy balance between peak and non-peak seasons," he said.
