The best advice my father has given me till date is this: Remember whenever you are with your family or friends, steer clear of controversial topics like politics, religion, caste and creed. Always be neutral.

Don't speak ill about anybody. Avoid gossiping or talking behind somebody's back.

He always quoted the Tamil saying: 'Pagalil pakkam paarthu pesu iravil athuvum pesaathe.' It means that when you talk during the day, look around before you speak. In the night, don't speak at all.

He made me an independent girl right from a very young age.

He had a two-wheeler but would insist that I use the public transport to go to school.

He taught me to visit the bus depot after school hours to buy my student bus pass and bus tokens every month.

This made me learn the value of money and the importance of doing work by myself.

My father is an epitome of patience. He also advised me to be calm, patient and to control my emotions in every situation.

Whenever there was an occasion to socialise, he would entertain everybody with his sense of humour and knowledge on a wide range of topics.

He continues to be popular because of his positivity and is a sought-after person at every social gathering.

He has always been honest, hardworking and sincere in whatever he has done.

He is God fearing and has instilled the same values in me.

His love for animals is phenomenal.

He's always had pets, whom he likes to feed -- like cats and pigeons.

He has always led by example.

I have not been able to find a single negative quality in my father yet.

When I look back, I am glad that he was strict when it came to my academics.

He insisted that I take every test/exam seriously and study for it.

He taught me that knowledge is power.

He was never stingy about spending on food, books or clothes.

In fact, he worked extra hours to give us the best he could.

My father wanted me to be the best at everything.

I am blessed to have such a wonderful father who practices what he preaches.

His life is my biggest inspiration and motivation.
