Even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India has released more than Rs 120 million in pending match fees to its players, there are no signs of the long-awaited graded payments system being implemented.
The graded payments system, which envisages match fees for players on the basis of seniority, has been accepted in principle by the BCCI, but kept in abeyance for a detailed study.
Sources in the BCCI, however, say the system is unlikely to be implemented until the newly-formed players' association gets recognition from the Board.
They said the association has only a "handful of players" and the BCCI would like to talk only to a truly representative players' body on this issue.
The BCCI is also trying to seek senior players' views on an appropriate formula for the system.
Meanwhile, Board treasurer Kishore Rungta informed that cheques, amounting to more than Rs 120 million had already been dispatched to 27 cricketers as pending match fees.
The players have been paid for four tours -- England, ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka, West Indies and New Zealand.
Among the 27 recipients, Rahul Dravid is the biggest earner, with Rs 9.28 million, followed by Virender Sehwag, with Rs 9.26 million. Captain Sourav Ganguly will receive Rs 8.82 million while Sachin Tendulkar, who missed a few matches, will get Rs 7.37 million.
Rungta said official sponsors Sahara India are also expected to release the money it owes the Board following an agreement a couple of days ago.
