Kamindu Mendis walks in and gets off the mark with a quick single. Kuldeep delivers a wayward googly, sprayed well outside off - wide called. Varun bowls the next over, India desperate for a breakthrough. Nissanka, however, is in full control - slamming a boundary to inch closer to his century. A couple of quick runs follow, then a single to rotate strike. Asalanka misses a delivery that nearly brushes off stump, but there's no bat involved. A mistimed loft in the air lands safely for two, followed by a single to close the over.

Nissanka's sixes stun India

image
SL 130-1 (11 Ovs) vs Ind 202-5 | SCORECARD

India huddle up as the captain rallies his players - they need answers, and quickly. But Sri Lanka are racing away with all the momentum. Rana returns to the attack, and Perera greets him with a crisp boundary before rotating strike with a single. Rana tries the slower bumper outside off - it grips in the pitch, comes through sluggishly, and Nissanka swings but misses.

No mistake next ball though! Another slower one, but this time Nissanka reads it early and deposits it into the stands - what a strike! He follows it up with a cracking boundary, before finishing the over with a calm single.

A massive 16 runs off it. After 11 overs, Sri Lanka are cruising at 130/1, needing just 73 from 54 balls.
23:16

Nissanka's sixes stun India, SL need 89

SL 114-1 (10 Ovs) vs Ind 202-5 | SCORECARD

Varun continues, and India are desperate for a breakthrough here. Perera nudges into the midwicket gap for a single before Nissanka mistimes a heave so badly that he still scampers back for two. Drama next ball - the umpire signals dead ball just as Varun is about to deliver, but he bowls anyway and Nissanka smashes it straight down the ground. Axar gets under it at long-on, but palms what should've been a straightforward catch over the rope - six gifted!

Nissanka shrugs it off and hoicks the next into the gap between deep midwicket and deep square leg for a couple. A swing and a miss follows, but he makes up for it in style - launching a massive six into the stands. Dot to finish, but the damage is done.

Sri Lanka march to 114/1 after 10 overs, needing just 89 from the last 60 balls.
23:06

Nissanka brings up his fifty

SL 89-1 (8 Ovs) vs Ind 202-5 | SCORECARD

Sri Lanka couldn't have asked for a stronger powerplay - 72/1 and right on top of this chase. Kuldeep is introduced straight after the field spreads out. A short one climbs awkwardly and even thuds into Perera's helmet, prompting the physio to rush out. He shakes it off, though, and responds in style with a crisp boundary followed by a couple.

Nine off the over, Sri Lanka 81/1 after 7.

Varun joins from the other end. Perera keeps the momentum going, backing away and swiping over midwicket for a single before crunching another boundary. He rotates strike, and Nissanka helps himself to a single too - that's his fifty, coming off just 25 balls! A blistering knock to anchor this chase.

Eight from the over, Sri Lanka now 89/1 after 8 overs, needing 114 off 72.

A dot to finish, but the damage is done -16 runs off the over.

Eleven from the over, Sri Lanka motoring along at 72/1 after 6 overs. The chase is well on track - they now need 131 off 84 balls.

Perera steps in and punches a crisp boundary before rotating strike again. Nissanka then rounds off the over with a firm drive for four more. Expensive start for Rana - 12 off it - and after 3 overs, Sri Lanka are 30/1.

Arshdeep continues. Perera flicks for a single before Nissanka takes charge. A couple through square leg, then a towering six over midwicket! He backs it up with a cracking boundary. A wild swing next ball, misses, but the umpire calls it wide on height. Nissanka stays busy with another single, while Perera defends the last.

image
SL 18-1 (2 Ovs) vs Ind 202-5 | SCORECARD

Nissanka and Kusal Mendis open the chase, with Hardik Pandya taking the new ball.

Nissanka gets going straightaway with a boundary, follows it up with quick singles, and then lofts one just over Rana at mid-on for another run. But drama strikes immediately-Mendis nicks his very first delivery! A tentative push, no conviction, and the outside edge flies straight to Gill at slip. Back-to-back golden ducks for Kusal Mendis!

A simple catch, and Hardik delivers a huge early breakthrough for India.

Perera walks in at No.3. First ball- rapped on the pad! India review, but it's pitching outside leg. Perera survives, review lost.

A testing over ends with 7 runs and a wicket.

Arshdeep takes the ball from the other end. Nissanka gets him away straightaway, flicking to third man for a single. Perera is off the mark with three before nudging another one into the leg side. He then opens up, driving handsomely through the covers for his first boundary of the night. Keeps the strike rotating with another single. Nissanka finishes the over with a push down to deep backward point for one more.

A busy over for Sri Lanka, 11 runs from it, and after 2 overs they move to 18/1.

India 202-5 (20 Ovs) vs Sri Lanka | SCORECARD

India's top order delivered another commanding batting display, posting the first 200+ total of the tournament, finishing at 202/5.

The innings was launched by Abhishek's explosive start, as he once again took the Sri Lankan bowlers to task, rattling to a superb 61 off just 31 balls. While the Indian skipper had a disappointing outing, the middle order ensured the momentum continued.

Sanju Samson quickly found his rhythm, forming a crucial partnership with Tilak Varma. Though Samson was the more fluent of the two, Tilak anchored the late innings, showing maturity to remain unbeaten on 49 (off 34 balls). The finish was sealed by Axar Patel, whose handy cameo (21 off 15) included a flourish, hitting a final-over six to take India past the 200-mark.

The tough evening for the Sri Lankan bowlers means they now face the formidable task of chasing down a target in excess of 200 to win.

India vs Sri Lanka: Can Sri Lanka salvage pride?

image

India have yet to play a perfect game. Abhishek Sharma has led the charge with the bat, and the bowlers have been solid, but sloppy fielding-too many dropped catches-remains a worry.

Sri Lanka, unbeaten in the group stage, have struggled badly here: two lost tosses, two batting failures, and a middle order that's largely underperformed, except for Kamindu Mendis.

Can they salvage pride with a final win?
