GT make one change; Coetzee replaces Janat

image

SRH remain unchanged while GT have made one change, bringing in South African all-rounder Gerald Coetzee in place of Afghan Karim Janat, who conceded 30 runs in an over in their previous match against Rajasthan Royals.

Cummins said, "We will have a bowl. You never really know what you will get. Sometimes it is better to bat at night. We won our first game at CSK. We still have a chance."

GT skipper Shubman Gill said, "We would have bowled first as well. Looks like a good wicket. The season has been very good for us. This is the time when good team peaks. We are not really looking at the NRR."

It's now or never for SRH

image
Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 51 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Currently fourth on the points table with six wins and three losses, GT are smarting from a morale-shattering defeat to the struggling Rajasthan Royals.

Despite posting 209-4 on board, they ended on the losing side in Jaipur five days ago as RR rode on a Vaibhav Suryavanshi storm to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

GT's bowlers struggled at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, conceding as many as 15 sixes and 19 boundaries 15.5 overs, and they have their work cut out in batting-friendly conditions at home against a dangerous SRH top order.

Despite the heavy loss, GT look poised for a playoff berth as another win at home will help them climb back into the top tier of the table. Moreover, they need at least two wins from their last five matches to seal a playoff spot.

Even in their loss against RR, GT's top 3 batters were in excellent form, mustering 173 runs off 106 balls, with skipper Shubman Gill (84 off 50) and Jose Buttler (50 off 26) doing the bulk of the scoring.

Their opening pair of Gill and Sai Sudharsan have scored 541 runs at an average of over 60 so far this season. But one significant concerning factor for them is the duo's scoring rate of 8.94, which is the second-slowest in IPL 2025.

On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna is second in the purple cap race with 17 wickets with best figures of 4-41, while Mohammad Siraj has been impressive, especially in the Powerplay, tallying 12 wickets.

In contrast, SRH's playoff ambitions hangs by a thread as even if they win all their remaining five matches, a top-four finish cannot be guaranteed.

They have had a pretty average campaign so far, with just three wins in nine matches.

However, they will be heading into the away match high on confidence, having beaten Chennai Super Kings by five wickets to snap a five-match losing streak at Chepauk.

SRH will rely heavily on the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen to power their revival.

GT will be wary of the fact that if SRH's explosive batting lineup gains early momentum, they can ruthlessly destroy any bowling unit in the league.

GT and SRH have squared off on four occasions in the IPL so far, with GT winning three times.
