Rahul hits fifty; India go past 100

India 101-3 (29 ovs) & 471 vs Eng 465 | Scorecard

England took seven balls to strike on the fourth day and it is the big wicket of captain Gill.

Rishabh Pant walks in at No 5 and if he gets going he could decisively swing the match in India's favour by lunch.

Chris Woakes comes back into the attack. Rahul slaps the second ball past point for a couple of runs.

Pant offers no shot to the first ball he faces before he steps out and has a big swing but gets the thick outside edge which flies over the slip fielder for a four to get off the mark.

Pant gets back to defending the last two balls with utmost caution.

Carse continues as Rahul offers no shot to the first ball and misses the clip off the next to be hit on the thigh pad. Carse keeps bowling in the channel just outside the off-stump as Rahul is happy to leave, to bowl a maiden over.

Woakes strays down the leg side as Pant misses the glance before he inside edges the next. Pant has been very unpredictable with his choice of strokes, especially when attacking.

Pant keeps out the first five balls before he keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Rahul eases the full toss from Carse in the gap at midwicket for two runs to complete his fifty from 87 balls, after missing out on the mark in the first innings.

He will be looking to bat as long as possible while Pant looks to attack from the other end.

Blow for India; Captain Gill out for 8

India 92-3 (25 ovs) & 471 vs Eng 465 | Scorecard

Bashir starts off with the ball on Day 4 to complete his unfinished over from the previous day, which was stopped early due to rain.

K L Rahul watchfully defends the length ball to end Bashir's over before Brydon Carse is called back into the attack from the other end.

He starts with a length ball on line of the off-stump as Gill defends it on the off-side with a straight bat and does the same next ball.

Carse goes short as Gill pulls it to deep square leg where the fielder parries away from his teammate running around at fine leg to concede two runs.

Carse gets the early breakthrough with the wicket of Gill, who ends up chopping it back on to his stumps.

Gill looks to run the back of length behind square on the off-side but it takes the inside edge and goes back on to the stumps.

Gill walks back after scoring eight as India are reduced to 92/3 in 25 overs.

India 90-2 (23.5 ovs) & 471 vs Eng 465 | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the first Test between England and India at Headingley on Monday.

India will be aiming to stretch their lead on the fourth day and put themselves in a good position to push for victory on the final day.

On the other hand, England can take control if they pick up a couple of wickets in the morning session.

India finished day three on 90/2 to lead England by 96 runs at stumps on Sunday after England were dismissed for 465 in the first innings on the back of Ollie Pope's century and Harry Brook's knock of 99.

Having scored 471 in the first innings, India's total was virtually wiped out when they walked in to bat again with a slender six-run lead and a little over two days left to play to leave the test evenly poised.

England struck early when Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a century in the first innings, was forced to play a superb Brydon Carse delivery that caught the edge to give wicketkeeper Jamie Smith an easy catch.
