A total of 25 new pay channels have hit the Indian TV screens since December 26, 2003, according to figures released by the broadcast regulator, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

Trai said that this list included six channels, which were free-to-air (FTA) earlier.

"On the basis of the examination and keeping in view the divergent opinion of stakeholders," Trai said it had decided to publish information pertaining to pay channels, including those which were earlier FTA, beamed in the country after December 26, 2003.

The channels which have gone pay from FTA include Sab TV, NDTV 24X7, Udaya TV and MTV. On the other hand, new pay channels include Zoom, Hungama TV, Star One and Disney Channel.
