Information technology education major NIIT is taking its learning business to the United States and Europe as part of the new growth strategy even as it is bullish on the Chinese market, a top company executive said in Bangalore on Friday.

Chief operating officer P Rajendran told reporters that the company would initially focus on higher education solutions, hosting of websites of universities and application software product solutions segments in the US and Europe.

Counted as one of the top 20 IT education companies in the world, NIIT is currently present in over 30 countries.

Sounding bullish on the Chinese market, Rajendran said NIIT had over 100 education centres, including two of its own in Shanghai, in 25 provinces and added that it was already a recognised brand in the neighbouring country.

He said the potential for growth in IT education is higher in China than in India as the Chinese have higher levels of aspiration; are known to take speedy decisions and have a craving to show to the world that they can do jobs faster and better.

The company officials said it was looking at expanding its reach in China by becoming a single window education provider, adding, NIIT was also venturing into the corporate training segment there through centres of excellence.

Rajendran said: "We have been investing in China since 1998; and we have trained over 20,000 students there."

He said the company was now expanding its focus to include the growing and untapped IT-Assisted Education market, besides laying more stress on corporate training and blended learning.
