In a bid to position India's information technology and telecom prowess in Africa and the Middle-East, Communication and IT Minister Pramod Mahajan is leading a high-powered delegation to Egypt and South Africa between January 9-11 to discuss business opportunities there with the respective governments.

The delegation also includes the chief whips of political parties in Parliament, an official release said, adding the delegation would endeavour to strategise business partnerships and opportunities for Indian companies in both the countries.

The delegation would hold meetings with the key principals in the government and industry in both countries to give new vision to bilateral relations by incorporating India's newly acquired status of  'IT and telecom major'.

The visit is expected to streamline key deliverables for increased Indian participation in crucial segments of IT and telecom markets in both countries.

Areas such as outsourcing opportunities, networking products, IT solutions, highly specialised software for communications, value-added services for communications platforms and IT-enabled learning and systems integration would be highlighted for the enhanced Indian participation in the IT sector.

Mahajan is also likely to focus on the enhanced role of public sector telcom majors in providing expertise and solutions to foreign markets, it added.
