Indian Oil Corporation on Monday said there was no shortage of LPG even as it claimed it was checking against diversion of cooking gas for unauthorised use.

"There is no panic. All genuine customers are getting LPG on demand. There is no waiting list across the board," N G Kannan, director (marketing), IOC, said.

He said IOC was dealing with diversion of LPG cylinders for unauthorised use which had helped meet the demand to some extent.

"From a double digit growth, the LPG demand has come down to about one per cent levels," Kannan claimed.

There were concerns recently about shortage of LPG in the market. Kannan said it was due to high demand for LPG, a highly subsidised product, for uses other than cooking, like fuel-kits for automobiles.

To ensure that only genuine customers receive LPG cylinders, Kannan said agents have been asked to maintain "refill audits."
