The Asia-Pacific region will have the highest number of broadband subscribers this year as telecom operators cut charges and mobile user-base increases in number, said an International Data Corp report on Wednesday.

The IDC report said that the developing markets of China and Taiwan will see the sharpest growth in broadband subscribers.

"Although the Korean market is reaching saturation in terms of subscriber base, other markets such as China and Taiwan are growing rapidly as more infrastructure is being made available to users, business and consumers alike," said Sandra Ng, regional vice president for communications and peripherals, said.

The IDC report said with Asian governments striving to make their economies more technology-oriented, a corresponding growth is being seen in the broadband subscriber base.

However, pricing and the quality of infrastructure will still play a crucial role in the take-up of broadband access in the region, IDC said.
