HP employs around 60,000 people in India, including former employees of EDS, which it had acquired for $13.2 billion in May last year. However, a good number of EDS India employees who were transferred to HP India will not be so lucky, industry sources said. "HP CEO Mark Hurd's plan to effect pay cuts between 2.5 per cent and 5 per cent will affect all EDS employees who were moved to HP," an industry source added.
"China's large and fast-growing domestic IT services market is a great strength for its outsourcing industry," corporate vice-president and managing director of Electronic Data Systems, China and South Korea, David Wirt, has said.
The move, alleged employee sources, started somewhere in mid-January. While at least 80 employees were asked to resign over the past week, one company source asserted that as many as 300 employees were being asked to leave. The company, however, dismissed the employee allegations as pure speculation.

BPO solutions provider Mphasis BFL said on Wednesday it will merge the entire business and undertaking of EDS Electronic Data Systems (India) with itself.
Global IT services giant Electronic Data Systems Corporation has completed the acquisition of MphasiS BFL Ltd, the leading software applications and BPO company.
The shares of MphasiS BFL gained over 6 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange on market speculations.
MphasiS serves clients in multiple industries, including financial services, transportation, technology and health care.
Electronic Data Systems, a global services provider company, has set up its business process services centre in Mumbai with an initial capital investment of $12 million even as the entity plans to triple its Indian workforce.
