Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan outplayed Goa's Vasco SC 3-0 in a floodlit ONGC I-League encounter at the Vidyasagar Krirangan in Barasat on Thursday.
It was the Goan outfit, already relegated, who began on an attacking note and gave Bagan a run for their money in the initial stages.
But having conceded a goal before the half-time, Vasco choked in the second-half as Bagan cashed in on the opportunity to bang in two more goals which took them to the second spot in the table, with 40 points from 20 matches.
Sporting Clube de Goa have the same number of points in their kitty, but Bagan are ahead of them on better goal difference.
Three points shy of the leaders Churchill Brothers, Bagan drew first blood through Ishfaq Ahmed in the 42nd minute. Jose Ramirez Barreto's silken touch made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, while NS Manju completed the scoreline in the 81st minute.
