Trade and investment between India and Britain is expected to receive a boost with the launch of the 'Next Generation India' initiative at Edinburgh in Scotland on Tuesday, which will foster networks between young professionals of any nationality who have Indian roots.

Research by the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC), which launched the initiative, indicated that Indians regard Britain as having outdated views of business opportunities, and generations of Indian talent were turning to countries other than the UK as business partners of choice.

To address the issues of perception and inform both markets, the UKIBC has created the programme of activities under the brand 'Next Generation India'. The UKIBC, which is chaired by Lord Karan Bilimoria and whose Chief Executive is Sharon Bamford, operates under the Indo-British Partnership, created in 1993 by the then British and Indian prime ministers.

Bamford said: "As a hot bed of entrepreneurial talent and a thriving area for new businesses, Scotland is a key region for the UKIBC."

"Next Generation India will help position modern India in the minds of the young executives and professionals and also strengthen the business, trade and investment ties between India and the UK in the future," she added.

Aditya Kedia, IT Developer at Aegon Asset Management, Edinburgh, and Next Generation Advisory Board member said: "A local chapter of the Next Generation Network in Edinburgh is a step towards bringing together like-minded young entrepreneurs who will play an active role in shaping the future economy."
