The Young Professional Committee of the Share and Care Foundation, a New Jersey-based social service agency, raised $31,000 at its second annual charity gala at the Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.

"This will be distributed to three projects in India: Samadhan, Manav Sadhna-Bal Sanskar Kendra and Ratna Nidhi-Food for Education,' said Shimul Shah, who chairs the Committee with Ami Gala. "Collectively, these projects address the needs of the economically challenged children and women in the New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai," Shah added.

The 27-year-old Foundation aids needy people in India, especially in the fields of education and healthcare. The YPC was established in its silver jubilee year with the goal of motivating and involving the young professional community to participate, and ultimately lead the organisation's humanitarian endeavours.

Some 175 young professionals from the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut gathered in traditional and formal attire at the Manhattan Penthouse to support the charitable causes. After introductory remarks by the YPC's event planning chairs, Purvi Parikh and Monica Punjabi, Shah made a presentation on projects that will receive funding from the night's proceeds. The programme included a Payal Singhal fashion show and dinner, followed by dance.

Shah said many young professionals have asked about how to become more involved with the YPC, which, he said, was exciting as the YPC is eager to expand its membership base. Gala invited the young professional community to become a part of the YPC network.
