Prohibitory orders were on Saturday promulgated in Palra village in Rajasthan's Ajmer district to maintain law and order in view of proposed agitation by villagers protesting against allotment of an alleged temple land to a Muslim body.

The district administration issued the order under Section 144 of the CrPC banning assembly of five or more persons, any demonstration, and carrying of arms with effect from Saturday morning, official sources said.

While villagers have announced a three-week long agitation, some religious organisations have announced a shiv-sangam in the village on Sunday.

The protestors are demanding cancellation of a land allotment to Anjuman, an organisation of khadims (caretakers) of the dargah (memorial) of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer, for construction of a residential school building in Palra village.

The villagers allege that the land belongs to a Shiv temple.
