Priyanka pumps fresh blood into Rajiv's vision

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is all set to revamp the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, named after her father.

The Foundation, which was established in 1991 to commemorate Rajiv Gandhi's vision for India, was originally meant to act as a catalyst in promoting effective, practical and sustainable programmes in areas of national development.

Now, Priyanka wants to promote rural uplift as RGF's main agenda through regional workshops in various state capitals.

She has set the revamp process in motion. The old staff has been sent packing and youngsters in the age group of 30-35 have been recruited to reactivate the body headed by her mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi that has been lying virtually defunct for the past five years.

Though she joined just as a trustee, Priyanka is conducting herself like RGF's CEO (Chief Executive Officer) -- spending three hours every working day to revive the activities of the foundation, located at walking distance from Parliament.

She has already given the marching orders to 25 employees and another 40 or so are likely to be shown the door. Her mother would not have resorted to the sweeping action to get rid of the employees, who have been with the foundation since its establishment back in 1991.

Sources in RGF said most of those already sacked were government employees, who joined the foundation after retirement and had crossed the age of 70. Priyanka found them unfit to contribute anything worthwhile in conducting programmes.
