The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday finally condemned Vishva Hindu Praishad leader Praveen Togadia's statement wherein he had called party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani a 'traitor'.

Togadia's statement, made after Advani referred to Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, in glowing terms, led Advani to resign for the party chief's post.

While Togadia made the statement on Sunday, none in the BJP thought it fit to condemn it. Advani mentioned this in his resignation letter handed over to party general secretary Sanjay Joshi on Tuesday morning.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP vice-president Venkaiah Naidu recalled Advani's role in the growth of the party in the past three decades.

He said the party's entire top leadership has requested Advani to reconsider his decision.
