All Opposition political parties were united on Tuesday in their condemnation of the government's decision to detain Anna Hazare and his aides, hours before the Gandhian activist was scheduled to go on an indefinite fast against corruption in New Delhi.
Leaders of the Left Front are scheduled to meet their counterparts in the Bharatiya Janata Party and other Opposition parties at 2 pm on Tuesday to chalk out their strategy in the wake of Hazare's detention.
Left Front leaders will urge BJP and other Opposition parties to join them in the boycott of Parliament for three days in protest of Hazare's detention.
They are aware of the fact that people don't like watching the continuous adjournments of Parliament and legislators rushing to the Well of the House over various issues on their TV screens. Left leaders feel that it is better to present a united front as the Opposition and not attend Parliament for three days to express their support for Hazare.
Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta told rediff.com, "This government has no neta (leader) or neeti (ethics). It is behaving like a dictator".
He added, "Can you imagine any government arresting anyone from their residence early in the morning when there are so signs or indications of any kind of violence?"
