With over a month having passed after the defence ministry referred the Navy war room leak case to Central Bureau of Investigation, the investigating agency is yet to register a case and has sought more documents pertaining to the case.

The defence ministry had asked the CBI on February 18 to probe the leaks from the Naval headquarters, which had led to the sacking of three senior naval officials.

CBI sources said the defence ministry had been asked to submit all the papers, including the court of inquiry report against the three officers. The government had referred the case following reports that the leaks pertain to the purchase of six French Scorpene submarines worth Rs 13,000 crore.

The Navy had constituted a board of inquiry after intelligence officers recovered a pen drive from senior Air Force officer Wing Commander S L Surve in December that reportedly contained classified Naval information. The Air Force officer was on deputation with the Directorate of Naval operation.

After two months of inquiry, the Board found three senior officers - Captain Kashyap Kumar (former director of Naval Operations), Commander V Rana and V K Jha - guilty and dismissed them from service.
