The Rajasthan high court has served show cause notices to former external affairs minister K Natwar Singh, his son Jagat Singh and the state government while admitting a petition regarding a land allotment dispute.

Justice Ashok Parihar of the Jaipur bench recently issued the notices, copies of which were made available on Wednesday, on a writ by Natwar Singh's younger brother Bharat Singh alleging that three bighas of his land was given at a concessional rate to Natwar and Jagat.

The judge fixed the hearing of the case for later this week.

Bharat Singh said in the writ that agricultural land worth Rs 60 crore, situated near their ancestral property, was acquired in Bharatpur by the state government in 1972-73

and claimed that it was originally in his Khatedari rights.

The Urban Improvement Trust, Bharatpur, took possession of the land and compensated him but he later applied for three bighas worth Rs 30 crore to be alloted back to him at a concessional rate. Bharat's petition alleged that in May this year, UIT was instructed by the deputy-secretary (Urban Development and Housing) to allot the land to Natwar and his son.

Bharat's counsel K S Rathore alleged that Natwar and Jagat had never been in possession of the land and it was allotted to them at 'throwaway prices.'
