The Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedly said that senior IAS officer and former additional commissioner of enforcement in the commercial taxes department in Karnataka, DK Ravi, who allegedly committed suicide in his flat on March 16, may have called his batchmate only once and not over 42 times as was earlier reported.

According to reports, in its preliminary report, the Central Bureau of Investigation has said that IAS officer DK Ravi had possibly committed suicide by hanging himself after incurring huge losses in the real estate business.

Several officers of the state government who were apparently behind such leaks are under the scanner of CBI as it wants to identify those who are trying to sully the image of the deceased officer, the sources added.

They said it was possible that people leaking these inputs to the media were actually acting on the instructions of some persons who feared exposure during the course of the probe.

The agency said it was yet to arrive at any conclusion as far as the unnatural death of the 2009-batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer was concerned.

"CBI would like to state that all aspects/hypotheses relating to unnatural death of Ravi are being inquired into. The matter is under investigation and conclusion is yet to be drawn in the matter," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said.

The agency has sent all the forensic evidence, including the photographs taken after Ravi's death, his viscera sample and other evidence recovered by Karnataka Police to the Central Forensic Laboratory here for a detailed analysis.

The sources said that, according to the report of the autopsy conducted by the state government, the death occurred due to hanging, but the agency has not yet concluded whether or not it was a suicide.

Ravi's death has led to speculation that he may have been murdered for taking on Karnataka's building and sand lobbies.

The opposition BJP has been putting pressure on the Congress government in Karnataka to seek a CBI probe since March 17.

Ravi is also said to have ended his life over a failed relationship with his married batchmate.
