Bhartiya Janata Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad has denied that Rajasthan's food and relief minister Kirori Mal Meena has sent in his resignation following the submission of a report by the Justice Chopra Committee, which had been formed to study the legitimacy of the demands of the Gurjar community.
Rajasthan had witnessed large-scale violence in some of the Gurjar-dominated districts in May and June when the state government refused to give them backward community status.
"He has not sent in his resignation. He has expressed his views on certain matters which would be given due weightage," he said at press conference in New Delhi on Monday.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will consult her cabinet colleagues on the issue on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Meena community has asked its ministers to follow the example of Kirori Mal Meena and resign from the cabinet.
When contacted, Meena refused to say anything about his resignation. "He has sent his resignation to the chief minister," an official told rediff.com.
The community has three to four ministers and 32 MLAs in the state government and the assembly.
