Central Board of Secondary Education chairman Ashok Ganguly on Saturday said that in a couple of years to come, the board would overhaul its education system to make it more practical and stress free.

"To make education more practical and stress-free, the board has decided that from class I to class V, instead of marks system, it will be a five grade evaluation system and the concept of pass and fail will be eradicated in the primary level," Ganguly said.

Up to level 2, school bags would be removed and no homework would be given, he said, adding that from class 3 to class 5, alternatives would be searched in place of traditional homework to bring creativity among the students.

In the level class VI to class VIII, seven points evaluation system would be adopted and class IX onwards, the grading system up to nine points would be implemented, he added.

In the recent meeting of the council of board for school education, apart from giving time of 15 minutes more to the students of class X and XII for reading question papers, it has been decided to streamline the educational system and by the next year for class X, there will be 2 levels of maths and science and it will be up to the students to choose out of these, Ganguly said.
