Bihar government has finally suspended the Darbhanga Medical College Hospital superintendent Dr Shankar Jha on Tuesday over the pasting of stickers titled bhukamp on the foreheads of quake victims last month, officials said.

The decision to suspend Jha came from Health secretary Anand Kishor.

Jha was held responsible for the he pasting of stickers of bhukamp on the forehead of quake victims admitted in the DMCH after quake hit Nepal and Bihar on April 26.

Anand Kishor found Jha guilty of insensitive act and recommended the immediate action and suspension of the DMCH superintendent on last Saturday following he was asked to probe into the incident by the state government.

The state government was embarrassed when reported that stickers were pasted to the quake victims’ forehead.

Last week Bihar Health Minister Ramdhani Singh announced that action would be taken against the DMCH superintendent over the pasting of stickers of bhukamp on the forehead of quake victims.

After Singh statement, the Indian Medical Association has extended support to Jha and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident.

Earlier, state Fisheries Minister Baidyanath Sahni, who is also minister in charge of Darbhanga, had ordered a probe into the incident.

When victims of last month's earthquake were admitted to DMCH for treatment, stickers carrying the word bhukamp were pasted on their foreheads. The incident was reported soon.

But then Jha had expressed regret over the incident and claimed that it happened without an order from any one.

According to officials in DMCH, soon after over 100 of quake victims were admitted to the hospital, paramedics had pasted stickers on their forehead for identification.

All stickers were removed soon after last Tuesday after hue and cry over the issue.
