The Indo-China trade touched $13 billion last year and added that Beijing would take all steps to see it increased in the coming years, Chinese Ambassador Sun Yuxi said.

"China is now the second largest trading partner of India, behind the US which does an annual business of $19 billion with New Delhi. We would like to beat the US in this count and emerge the biggest trading partner of India," Sun said.

"In the last four months itself our trade with India has touched $6 billion," he said at the fifth anniversary of the formation of the India-China Elite Group, an NGO working for promoting understanding and co-operation between the two countries.

Admitting to taking a leaf out of the successful Indo-Pak Confidence Building measures, the Chinese Ambassador said people to people interaction between New Delhi and Beijing will be increased by boosting educational and cultural exchange programmes.

"Indian students can benefit from education in China especially in the field of medicine, while our students can tap the Indian IT education sector," Sun said adding that 2006 would be observed as the 'Year of Friendship' between India and China.
