Hours after his party's trade union wing Centre of Indian Trade Unions said West Bengal's IT industry would not be exempted from a strike on December 14, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya warned on Tuesday against attempts to disrupt work in the sector.

"The government will not tolerate any attempt at picketing or forceful implementation of the strike," he told reporters at the secretariat.

"As far as I know, no one in the IT sector will join the strike. There will be no picketing by outsiders."

Stating that he had had talks with trade unions on the strike, Bhattacharya said he had also held discussions with IT companies on transportation arrangements for their employees on the day.

"The arrangements will be made accordingly," he said without elaborating. During a meeting earlier in the day, Citu, the trade union wing of the CPI-M, decided not to exempt the IT industry from the strike.

Inclusion of the IT industry in the strike would not send any wrong message to industrialists, state Citu President Shyamal Chakraborty claimed.
