Thai carrier Nok Airlines on Tuesday said it was looking to expand its reach in India to cash in on the growing interest of consumers from the country to go shopping in the south-east Asian nation.

Nok, which operates a unique model - shoppers airlines - offering about 70 per cent discount in Thailand's major shopping malls to travelers having its boarding pass, already operates between Bangkok and Bangalore.

"By October we plan to connect Chennai, followed by Delhi in November and by January next year we should be touching Hyderabad as well," Nok Airlines chief executive officer Patee Sarasin told reporters in New Delhi.

He said the carrier offers a round trip fare of Rs 11,000 ever since it started operations to India this month. It currently operates seven flights a week to India. "Many Indians who come to Thailand go for a lot of shopping and we want to cash in on the potential of this growing trend," he said.

As a part of its plans to meet the requirement, the airline is also expanding its fleet. "Currently we have just two aircraft, we will be increasing it up to 20," Sarasin added.
