Infosys BPO arm in Mexico soon

IT major Infosys Technologies said on Thursday it would soon open a 200-seater BPO facility in Mexico, its first in Latin America, and is also looking at other countries to start such units.

"As we speak, we are in the process of moving into our own office..we have taken the office. It will be operational very soon", company CEO and Managing Director S Gopalakrishnan told PTI in Bangalore.

"Right now, we are looking at approximately 200 seats".

"Its (the centre being set up in the city of Monterrey in Mexico) focus is on BPO right now... we will see our growth... then we will look at other services," he added.

The NASDAQ-listed IT and consulting major has just opened a 60-seater BPO facility at the Philippine capital of Manila which will be ramped up to 700

in an year's time. Gopalakrishnan added:

"We will look at other countries also (to open BPO facilities)". Infosys Head (HRD, Education and Research) T V Mohandas Pai said: "Mexico is closest to the US in the time zone and American clients are very familiar with that country. There is a good emerging employee pool there."

Infosys, which has employees of around 65 nationalities on its rolls, is also scaling up hiring of locals. "We are a global business with about 97 per cent revenues from overseas. Therefore, it's imperative that we have employees in the countries from where we get business," Pai said.
