Electric diyas are the latest craze this season, they come in all shapes and sizes - fitted inside the statues of idols, in puja trays, and inside candles, pencils even rotating diyas.
While most of them are of Chinese origin and priced at Rs 20 onwards, local brands are also available, says Sajjan K, a retailer in west Delhi.
A tray of electric diyas comes for Rs 200, while candle and pencil diyas are in the range of Rs 25-50, he says, adding there popularity is growing because there is no hassle of oil, or even lighting them after every half-an-hour.
"This is the first year that diyas have come from China, till last year, it was the electric lights which became very popular last year and were priced as low as Rs 15 for a string," says Sajjan.
"In fact, these electric diyas have become good gift items and most people prefer them for Diwali," says Naveen Sood, another dealer.
Designer diyas made of silver and embedded with semi precious gems, have hit also the market. Though they are available only at select outlets, there are quite a few takers for them, especially for corporate gifts or gifting it during the wedding season, says Anuradha Chhabra, a designer.
