A coal mineFive central trade unions operating in Coal India and its subsidiaries have served a strike notice for three days starting September 23, the state-owned miner said on Tuesday.

"Five Central Trade Unions operating in Coal India and its subsidiaries have served strike notice for three days with effect from September 23 to 25 against proposed disinvestment of five per cent of CIL shares and other demands," CIL said in a BSE filing.

CIL workers are represented by five unions -- Indian National Trade Union Congress, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Bharatiya

Mazdoor Sangh, AICWF and All India Trade Union Congress.

The company also said All India Coal Workers' Federation is understood to have decided to withdraw their three days strike, scheduled to start from September 19, and join other unions in the strike beginning September 23.

The government had planned to sell a 10 per cent stake in CIL, but later decided to halve it to 5 per cent in a bid to placate trade unions.

According to industry analysts, a single day's strike may result in CIL losing more than 1 million tonne production.

CIL, which produces more than 80 per cent of India's coal, clocked 452.21 million tonnes production in 2012-13.
