Lanka's Gunaratne breaks finger bone

February 14, 2003 18:48 IST

According to a Web site, Sri Lankan manager Ajith Jayasekera has said that fast bowler Pulasthi Gunaratne has broken a bone in his right index finger and has been ruled out of at least three World Cup matches.

Jayasekera, however, said the right arm speedster would be retained in the squad as he is expected to be fit for the team's Group B matches against West Indies [February 28] and South Africa [March 3].

The 29-year-old sustained the injury while fielding in the opening win over New Zealand at Bloemfontein on Monday.
