The data, released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), shows that 65 out of 75 countries studied significantly reduced their multidimensional poverty levels between 2000 and 2019.
The report documents allegations of reprisals and intimidation in 38 countries, some of which are members of the Human Rights Council.
The report says the first goal of halving the number of people whose income is less than $ 1 a day by 2015 is within reach. But it adds: Higher food prices may push 100 million people deeper into poverty. Most of this increase, it says, will happen in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
