Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty settled with marginal gains on Thursday in a highly volatile trade amid the scheduled monthly derivatives expiry and muted trend in the US markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 86.53 points or 0.13 per cent higher at 66,988.44, registering its third day of gains. During the day, it hit a high of 67,069.89 and a low of 66,610.35.

The National Stock Exchange on Wednesday removed Satyam from its benchmark index Nifty and the IT firm will be replaced by Reliance Capital with effect from January 12.

Domestic firm Sun Pharmaceuticals has prepared a war chest of $500 million for acquisitions in the US, as it bets big on the world's largest drugs market.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd has posted a 47.24 per cent rise in consolidated net profits at Rs 247.5 crore (Rs 2.47 billion) in the financial year ended March 31, 2003, compared to Rs 168.09 crore (Rs 1.68 billion).
Indian pharmaceutical firms foresee minimal disruptions in trade with Israel despite escalating regional tensions. Rising crude prices and export shipping insurance premiums have raised concerns, but the pharmaceutical sector remains optimistic. Pharmaceutical exports from India to Israel in FY 2020-21 amounted to $32.5 million, which represents only a minor segment of India's overall pharma exports.

Leading drug firms Aurobindo Pharma, Sun Pharma and Jubilant are recalling different products in the US market for various reasons, as per the latest enforcement report by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). While Aurobindo Pharma is recalling Cyanocobalamin Injection, which is used to treat and prevent lack of vitamin B12, Mumbai-based Sun Pharma is recalling a drug used to increase the production of natural tears in eyes. Similarly, Jubilant Cadista is recalling a drug which is used to treat different inflammatory conditions.
Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded from early lows to settle higher on Wednesday following buying in Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro and ITC and positive trends in Asian and European markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose by 173.22 points or 0.26 per cent to settle at 66,118.69. The index opened lower and fell further to a low of 65,549.96 in morning trade.
Israeli drug firm Taro Pharmaceuticals has filed a law suit in a US district court against Mumbai-based Sun Pharmaceutical Industries alleging violation of non-disclosure agreement and misleading shareholders.
Holzer Holzer & Fistel, a US-based law firm, has announced it would file a class action lawsuit in the District Court at Michigan on behalf of investors of Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories. A Sun Pharma spokesperson did not comment on the proposed legal action against the US subsidiary.
Earlier last month US FDA officials had seized drug products manufactured by Caraco Pharmaceutical at its Michigan facilities in Detroit, Farmington Hills, and Wixom, alleging violation in good manufacturing practice.
A law firm, Izard Nobel LLP, has initiated a lawsuit seeking class action status against the company in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of its investors. The law firm said certain officers and directors of Caraco violated federal securities' laws and interests of the investors by giving misleading information on the business of the company. It has asked the investors to join the suit before September 15 to claim their damages.
It also asked why the data shared pertained to a period from April 2019 even though the scheme for anonymous political funding was introduced in 2017.

Mumbai-based Sun Pharmaceuticals has filed a post-grant opposition with the Mumbai patent office against a product patent granted to the extended release version of Johnson and Johnson's (J&J) blockbuster drug Risperdal, used in the treatment of psychological disorders and schizophrenia.
