India Hospitality Corp said it would buy the Mumbai-based Mars Restaurant and airline catering company SkyGourmet Catering Private from Navis Capital Partners for $110 million.
For long, McDonald's has been riding on the affordability plank, advertising its prices that are apparently a throwback to an era. Now, it has to share the plank with India's oldest fast food giant, Nirula's when it comes to people picked from sepia tone menus. In spite of a rise in input costs, homegrown fast food chain Nirula's, which a-decade-and-a-half ago was the only one of its kind in Delhi, has slashed its prices.
'There is a clear business impact. People are avoiding crowded places and gatherings across cities. This is hitting business, both at traditional and modern trade outlets, during the Holi season, which kicked off from Saturday,' says Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
