The Madras high court on Wednesday quashed all proceedings pending in a lower court against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict S Nalini in connection with the seizure of a mobile phone in her cell in the Vellore prison.
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre on a plea by S Nalini, undergoing life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, challenging the law mandating Centre's approval for her release and that of six other convicts.
S Nalini, who has been undergoing life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has approached the Supreme Court seeking to declare as "null and void" a provision in law mandating Tamil Nadu government to consult the Centre before releasing seven life term convicts in the case.
Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy, against whom the Supreme Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in regards to his alleged assets, has said that the assets under investigation have nothing to do with him or his family.
