The Delhi police on Saturday picked up Professor S A R Geelani in the wake of the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru at Tihar Jail. Geelani had been arrested in connection to the Parliament attack but he was later acquitted by the court.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has accorded sanction to prosecute author Arundhati Roy and a former professor in Kashmir under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly making provocative speeches at an event in New Delhi in 2010, Raj Niwas officials said on Friday.
'Ram Singh was under suicide watch and such prisoners are never left alone. It is impossible for him to have committed suicide,' Professor S A R Geelani, who spent several years in Tihar Jail, tells Rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa.

Delhi University lecturer S A R Geelani was aquitted by the Supreme Court in the Parliament attack case.
The reward, announced by Police Commissioner K K Paul, comes into force with immediate effect and will hold good for another year.
Among the petitions dismissed by the Supreme Court, one was by Delhi police.
Most of the shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and offices were shut in and around the Lal Chowk city centre and in many areas elsewhere in the city, while government offices witnessed thin attendance, officials said.

Geelani, who was released from Tihar Jail this morning after remaining imprisoned for nearly 23 months, went straight to lawyer Ram Jethmalani's residence to thank him for arguing his case.
The SC had asked Delhi police commissioner to depute security personnel either from the force under him or from the Rajasthan police as Geelani said he had no faith in the city police.
A bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhan and Justice H K Sema issued the order on Afzal's petition and tagged it along\n\nwith the petitions filed by the Delhi police and another accused, Shaukat Hussain Guru.
The court also issued notice to the Delhi government on a seperate application by Geelani seeking directions to the jail authorities to supply him reading and writing material and access to jail library.
The former Union law minister said he is bound by the law to defend any accused who approaches him.
'Death penalty is a violation of the right to life and the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment,' it said.
