A local court in Ahmedabad on Monday allowed Zakia Jaffery to examine documents submitted by the Special Investigation Team to it in relation to closure report against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in 2002 riot cases.
The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team has said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi took all possible steps to control the 2002 post-Godhra riots and questioned the motive behind filing a complaint against him by a riot victim four years after the communal violence.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is likely to skip his scheduled appearance on Sunday before the Special Investigation Team probing a post-Godhra riots case, sources in the state government said on Saturday. The SIT had summoned Modi on Sunday in connection with the complaint of Jakia Jaffery, wife of slain former Member of Parliament Eshan Jaffery, in the Gulburg society riot case. The SIT had not received any communication from the chief minister till today evening.
Trial in the Gulburg Society riot case of 2002 began in the special court in Ahmedabad with framing of charges against the accused in the incident, in which 69 persons, including former Member of Parliament Eshan Jaffery, were killed.Designated Judge B U Joshi today framed charges against 62 of the 63 accused and directed the investigating officer to submit the original document of the case in the court by August 20 -- the date for the next hearing.
