Aiming to cash in on the growing demand for diesel cars, market leader Maruti Udyog on Wednesday launched two diesel variants of its premium hatchback 'Swift' and said it plans to launch two more models next fiscal.
Carmakers seem to be driving in the right lane with their new models, with three of the new launches - Maruti Swift diesel and Mahindra Renault Logan as well as GM's Chevrolet Aveo U-VA - finishing on the top of their segments in a customer satisfaction survey.
Pitting itself directly against Maruti Swift Diesel, Tata Motors plans to launch a 1.3 litre diesel variant of its small car Indica with a common rail direct injection (CRDi) engine developed in-house in the next few months.
