With militants belonging to anti-talks faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland and Kamatapur Liberation Organisation trying to strike fresh routes along the thickly forested and rugged terrain on the India-Bhutan border in North East and North Bengal (West Bengal), both the countries have decided to mount vigil along the border.
Five secessionist militants outfits based in North East India -- banned United Liberation Front of Asom, Kamatapur Liberation Organisation, Manipur People's Liberation Front, National Democratic Front of Bodoland and Tripura Peoples Democratic Front -- have called upon the people of the North East India to boycott and prevent celebration, in any manner, of India's Independence Day in the region on 15 August, 2009 as a mark of solidarity against 'Indian colonial occupation.'
The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom on Wednesday called for a boycott of the Republic Day celebrations. In a joint statement issued here, the ULFA along with three militant outfits of the region -- Kamatapur Liberation Organisation, Manipur People's Liberation Front and Tripura People's Democratic Front-- called for a boycott and general strike from 1 am to 6 pm on the day to protest against India's military repression.

Altogether 78 persons were killed and 191 kidnapped by different insurgent outfits in Assam during the last two years when 20 security personnel were also killed, Minister Rockybul Hussain said on Monday in the assembly.
