Raising doubts over the Gujarat government's claims that some 2002 post-Godhra riots-related intelligence documents were destroyed 'in routine course', suspended Indian Police Services officer Sanjiv Bhatt on Friday sought a "high-level investigation" into the matter.
Gujarat high court on Thursday dismissed a Public Interest challenging the state government's decision to give further extension to Justice G T Nanavati Commission, inquiring the 2002 post-Godhra riots cases.
'Do you allow the guilty to go scot free just because the perpetrators of such heinous crimes were able to protect themselves from the law for 20 years?'
The Delhi high court on Tuesday dismissed pleas of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and two others -- challenging the framing of murder and rioting charges against them -- in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the city. Justice Suresh Kait refused to quash the charges framed against Kumar and the other accused by a trial court in the case related to the killings of six people in Delhi's Sultanpuri area.
In a setback to Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed his plea for quashing of charges against him in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
A bench of justices G S Sistani and G P Mittal also asked Kumar to appear before the Registrar General of the high court to furnish bail bonds on September 2 in the case.
The appeal filed by Jagdish Kaur and Nirpreet Kaur, who had lost their close relatives in the carnage following the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi, has sought setting aside of the trial court's April 30 judgment. They have in their plea filed through advocate Kamna Vohra contended that the verdict was "erroneous" as the trial court had failed to appreciate that there was ample legally admissible evidence against Kumar to show he had allegedly "engineered" the murders of five Sikh persons in Raj Nagar area of Delhi Cantonment
The Delhi high court on Monday sought the response of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the two persons, who were sentenced to three years in jail for rioting in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, on the plea of victims' families challenging the trial court verdict acquitting them of murder charges.
