The Delhi police on Monday registered an FIR against unknown ABVP students based on the complaint received from a group of students in connection with a clash in JNU campus over non-vegetarian food, officials said.
In his letter to the vice-chancellor of JNU, Bhaduri expressed pain at throttling of dissent by the university administration. He alleged a 'deliberate attempt to throttle the free and lively atmosphere of debate and discussion'.
'I have been supplying meat to JNU for the last 25-30 years and never has it happened that I have been asked not to supply meat'
While the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) alleged that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members stopped students from eating non-vegetarian food in the hostel and 'created a violent atmosphere', the ABVP denied the charge and claimed that 'Leftists' obstructed a puja programme organised at the hostel on Ram Navami festival.
Jawaharlal Nehru University students' protest against the government over missing student Najeeb Ahmed turned violent on Sunday near India Gate when police took the protestors back to their buses in order to prevent any clash. Shocking visuals, which appeared all over social media, showed Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees being dragged by Delhi Police personnel from the protest site.
The students have been protesting against hostel fee hike. They had sought appointment with the Prez.
