A 45-year-old Indian climber died on Mt Everest after showing signs of altitude sickness while descending from the summit point of the world's highest peak, according to a media report on Friday.
Kami Rita Sherpa, 53, scaled the 8,849 metre (29,032-foot) mountain early in the morning along the traditional southeast ridge route, guiding a foreign climber.
"I was very proud to be on the tallest point of the earth," this was how Krushnaa Patil described her feelings after becoming the youngest Indian women to scale the Mount Everest. Patil, 19, a first year student from Pune, achieved the feat on May 21 as part of the Eco Everest Expedition 2009. "I felt like dancing on the Everest, but I didn't," said Patil.
'Today, our vast green pastures where local herders used to take their cattle to graze have been taken over by the Chinese.' 'The people in the Galwan Valley have lost their lands where their cattle used to graze.'
Subash Paul, who had fallen sick and was being taken down to safety, lost his life on Sunday night while being rescued to lower camps from near the summit point.
