Activists and politicians strongly condemned the alleged stripping and molestation of a girl in Guwahati while she was returning from a get-together, saying every woman has a right to party and demanded strong action against the culprits.
At least two persons including a nine-year-old boy were killed and several others injured when police opened fire to control a mob of protestors who went on a rampage on the arterial Guwahati-Shillong Road near Assam's capital complex at Dispur on Wednesday.

One more youth has been arrested on the charge of stripping and molesting a girl in a busy area in Guwahati, while 12 others involved in the incident have been identified. A total of four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident in front of a bar on the Guwahati-Shillong Road on Monday night. The incident led to a public outcry after a video of the shocking incident was uploaded on Youtube.
The police are not yet sure about the involvement of any particular militant group behind the abduction. Neither has anyone claimed responsibility for the abduction nor has any ransom demand been made.
The Assam government is making preparations for around 1,000 people to attend the last rites of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi, to be performed with full state honours at the Nabagraha cremation ground on Thursday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Gogoi's final journey began on Tuesday morning from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he breathed his last due to post-COVID-19 complications, to his official residence in Dispur.
