"We have almost entirely solved the case. We have arrested 10 people who were involved in the July 26 blasts including the mastermind, Mufti Abu Bashir," Gujarat Director General of Police P C Pande said. He said most of the arrested persons were part of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India and Bashir, picked up in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat Police, had planned out the entire blasts.

Gujarat has witnessed a steady increase in cases of kidnapping and molestation by juveniles, with 472 such cases registered in 2007. In 2007, a total of 102 cases of rape, 52 murders, 422 accidental deaths and 83 suicide deaths were registered against juveniles in the state. Sociologists say the reason for rise in rape and molestation cases among teenagers has a lot to do with what they see around them.
