Amar Bose last month joined the ranks of Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Alva Edison, after the National Inventors Hall of Fame announced his name as one of the seven living 2008 inductees. Dr Bose is only the second Indian American after Dr Rangaswamy Srinivasan, whose invention of ultraviolet surgical and dental procedures resulted in what is known today as LASIK surgery, to be inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Graham Ford, who turned down an offer to work with the Indian cricket team in 2007, might replace Peter Moores as the new England coach even though retired spinner Ashley Giles is also in the race for the job, according to media reports in London. Colombia became the first side to book a spot in the Copa America Centenario quarter-finals on Tuesday after beating Paraguay in Pasadena, while the United States kept their hopes of advancing alive by thrashing Costa Rica 4-0. Colombia's 2-1 win put them top of Group A on six points, with the United States on three and the other two teams on one point each. After losing their opener 2-0 to Colombia, the United States were in clinical form against the Costa Ricans in Chicago and scored three times in the first half through Clint Dempsey, Jermaine Jones and Bobby Wood. Substitute Graham Zusi added a fourth in the 86th minute to cap the win and improve the hosts' goal difference.

Liverpool's chief executive says the 60-70-million-pound cost of redeveloping the Anfield Road end of the club's iconic stadium is difficult to justify as a business deal. Ian Ayre told a meeting of Liverpool Supporters' Committee (LSC) that it could take 15 years to pay back, which he said was "not a smart investment for the business". Liverpool opened their redeveloped Main Stand earlier this season, raising seating capacity to more than 54,000, and have outline planning permission to extend Anfield Road by a further 4,800.
