It may be recalled that Sohrabuddin, his wife Kausar Bi and another person had boarded a private bus from Hyderabad in November 2005 when they were forcibly off-loaded from the bus by a team of the Gujarat police.
The Central Bureau of Investigation issued summons to Geetha Johri, the investigating officer in the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and killing of his wife Kausarbi, on Thursday and asked her to appear before the agency by August 10.
Senior Gujarat-cadre Indian Police Services officer Geeta Johri has filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation has been pressurising her to implicate some political leaders, including arrested Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah, in connection with Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing 2002 Gujarat riot cases, not to associate two senior Indian Police Service officers --Geeta Johri and Shivanand Jha -- in the investigations till further orders.
The five-member team headed by former CBI chief R K Raghavan spent almost an entire morning visiting the sites, sources in the police department said. The team, which include former director general of police of Uttar Pradesh C D Sathpathy and three IPS officers from Gujarat -- Geeta Johri, Shivanand Jha and Ashish Bhatia -- had an extensive meeting at Meghaninagar police station after visiting the contentious sites, police sources said.
Johri met Balwinder Singh for about 15 minutes. She also met Trivedi for over two hours. When mediapersons waiting at Trivedi's office literally mobbed her, she left the venue without answering their queries.
More arrests are likely, Johri said in her report. She also said that the role of the Andhra Pradesh police was also being investigated and a report would also be submitted on the issue.
This is the second time that Geeta Johri visited Andhra Pradesh for this case.
Geeta Johri, the investigating officer in the case, is likely to visit the CRPF Mess in Chandrayangutta.
The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Gujarat fake encounter case.
Rajnish Rai, the supervisory officer of the CID (crime) probing the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, has been asked to discontinue with the probe.
Special CBI Judge M B Gosavi while discharging Amin observed that there was no sufficient evidence against him.
The Maharashtra government had argued in the apex court that all pleas seeking an independent probe into Loya's death were motivated and aimed at targeting "one individual" in the guise of upholding the rule of law.
Raising security issues, the defence lawyers referred to a media report on the death of a judge who had dealt with the case and said "misreporting has already caused prejudice to both sides". They said it was a "sensational" case and some untoward incident could happen if publication of reports was allowed.
The Supreme Court on Friday termed as a "serious matter" the issue of alleged mysterious death of special Central Bureau of Investigation judge B H Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, and sought response from the Maharashtra government on pleas seeking an independent probe into it.
The apex court also asked to see "all documents" in the Loya death case.
