An undertrial prisoner in Dhanbad Divisional Jail, accused of murdering his wife, died after his health deteriorated. A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the cause of death.
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of a restaurant employee in Ranchi, Jharkhand, linked to an extortion attempt. The arrests followed a gunfight with police, and the investigation has uncovered a network of bank accounts used for illicit transactions.
The final round of voting for the Jharkhand Assembly elections is taking place on Wednesday, with the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition seeking to retain power while the BJP-led NDA aims to take control. "Hemant Soren repeatedly ignored my advice and eventually landed in jail... he has always been surrounded by wrong advisors," Hembrom, a lawmaker from Borio seat in Sahibganj district, told reporters.
"Journalists are not terrorists," the Supreme Court said on Monday, as it deprecated the Jharkhand police knocking on the door of a scribe of a local Hindi news channel at midnight and dragging him out of his bedroom before placing him under arrest in an extortion case.
On the road rage incident in Gaya, Kumar said, "... when I saw in the media the (journalist's) family's demand for a CBI probe, I personally asked the DGP (director general of police) to send a police team to acquaint the family with probe (being conducted by the state police).
