With local body elections approaching in Maharashtra, a significant portion of the Congress party is advocating for contesting independently to regain lost ground amidst the BJP's growing influence. The party is currently part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
Four members of the Guru Satam gang, including Vijay Thopte, who had jumped parole while serving a jail sentence for murdering trade union leader Datta Samant, were on Thursday arrested from Navi Mumbai, said the police. Thopte, 36, was carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head, the police said, adding that he had been absconding since 2005. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap today afternoon at Raghu Leela Mall near Vashi railway station.
The Nationalist Congress Party on Saturday declared the candidature of Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, from Baramati Lok Sabha seat, pitting her against sister-in-law and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule from the home turf of Pawars.
